Poncho—SPECIAL NEEDS

****SPECIAL NEEDS DOBERMAN PUPPY*****
WILL ONLY BE ADOPTED OUT IN THE LOUISVILLE KY AREA, NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.

What can we say about this boy other than ADORABLE!!! But don’t let that cute little face fool you he is all puppy teeth at this age.

Poncho was born on 4/25/20 and yes he is small for his age but he has had a rough time of things up until recently.

Poncho had to travel a long way to get to BDR but we are glad he did. He had been diagnosed with Megaesophagus and in short could only keep food down if he was sitting straight up while eating and for a period afterwards. Even then he wasn’t getting the proper nutrition. His owners knew they could not care for him so that is when rescue stepped in.

Poncho has been with one of our fosters with veterinary medical experience and has been able to get him on a prescription food (which he will need to continue eating, maybe even for his whole life) that is one component enabling him to eat like a dog should eat and keep the food down.

Original xrays showed his esophagus extremely enlarged but a new xray recently shows great improvement. We are not sure if this is due to him “growing out of it” or if he is healing along the way. Whatever the case, we know he is thriving and growing fast.

We are requiring that Poncho stay in the Louisville, KY area so our vet and any specialist he may need will be able to keep a close eye on his progress. He will be able to go to a new home any time but will not be neutered until our vet believes it is safe for him medically to be put under to do the procedure. Since we do not adopt out intact dogs, Poncho will stay as a foster with his new family until his surgery can be done. This may take until he is almost a year old.

Poncho will need to be treated as any puppy should, with tons of love but lots of structure and training. We want him to grow up to be a healthy well behaved red boy!

Poncho will need a home that has a physically fenced in yard.

If you want more information about his medical status you are welcome to give us a call (502)905-5512.

All of our dogs are in foster homes and are available to meet by appointment only and only after an application has been completed.
